The Mind of the Future: Mapping Youth Conservation IQ in Nairobi

ongoing April 2026 – June 2026

Summary

At Animal IQ, we believe that the future of wildlife conservation begins with young minds. Protecting wildlife isn't just about policies and parks, it's about people and it starts with young minds.
We are excited to launch our latest flagship research project: "An Assessment of Student's Attitude and Awareness Towards Wildlife Conservation in Schools".

Why this research?
Current trends in 2026 show that youth are more digitally connected with the rise of social media creating a growing 'nature deficit'. Students might recognise a penguin from a viral video but can they identify a common bulbul from outside their window? Many students can name animals like lions and elephants but:
▪︎Do they understand the threats wildlife face?
▪︎Do they know about local species around them?
▪︎Are they inspired to take action?

Using the scientifically validated KAP Model (Knowledge, Attitude and Practice) we are heading into schools and universities to measure students' awareness, attitude and action towards wildlife and wildlife conservation.

Why this matters
There's often a gap between knowing and doing. Students may care about wildlife but without the right knowledge and opportunities that concern does not always turn into action. By identifying these gaps we can make conservation relatable, focus on local biodiversity and turn curiosity into action.

Partner With Us
We are looking to collaborate with schools, educators and partners who share our vision of building a conservation- minded generation.
